Barbed wire has been collected in an organized fashion since 1966 when the Texas Barbed Wire Collector's Association was formed, according to the Antique Barbed Wire Society (ABWS), which was formed in 2002. Before 1966, it's likely that individuals were quietly collecting barb wire fence pieces on their own without benefit of organized groups.

Barbed wire also has been called barb wire, bob wire, bobbed wire, and the devil's rope.

Collecting Barbed Wire

Barbed wire collectors live all around the world and seek new designs of barbed wire to add to their collections. Collectors attend swap meets where collectors bring lengths of barb wire fence to trade. eBay is a large marketplace for worldwide buying and selling of single pieces of barbed wire or entire collections.

Barbed wire tools are also collected, including fence fixers, fence pliers, and fence stretchers.
