While it surely comes as no surprise to Toronto Blue Jays fans, Roy Halladay has officially closed his chapter in Toronto with a classy gesture. The 32-year old right hander has been a model of class and professionalism right to the end.
Halladay Takes Out Ad in Toronto Sun
During his introductory press conference as a member of the Phillies two weeks ago, Halladay made a point to tell the world how much the city of Toronto and its fans meant to him. For the benefit of those who may not have seen the press conference, Halladay made it crystal clear last week.
The 2003 Cy Young winner took out a full-page ad in the Toronto Sun thanking Toronto fans for their support during his 15-year tenure with the club.
"I am sincerely grateful for the incredible support and compassion the Blue Jays fans have always shown me," Halladay wrote. "I am in awe of your overwhelming passion and devotion."
Halladay, who finished with a 148-76 mark in the Blue Jays uniform, pulled on the heart strings of every Jays fan by adding "Toronto will forever have a special place in my heart. The memories will last a lifetime and so will my gratitude"
One of the greatest athletes the city of Toronto has ever seen is gone - and nothing can change that. - but Halladay's kind words makes it a little easier to swallow. Surrounded by trade rumours and uncertainty for the second half of the season, Toronto's ardour for Halladay never waned. Halladay took to the hill for the final time as a Blue Jay on September 25th. The result was fitting, with Halladay tossing a complete game shutout in a 5-0 win over the Mariners.
